Why do we need different technologies of the front end reader?
For Access Control, the basic elements are 3 Ws’ … Who, When & Where! All these 3 elements are base on the Card ID being read. Therefore, from the Security aspect, whether the Card ID is secure or not, is quite critical. “Secure” basically implies the following two questions:
1) Is the Card technology easy to make copy?
2) What is the chance of Card ID being duplicated outside the Company?
As the result, the front end technologies have been keep update. The technology switches from Bar Code to Magnetic Stripe; and from Magnetic Stripe to Wiegand technology; and from Wiegand to Low Frequency Proximity; and from Low Frequency Proximity to High Frequency Proximity (Contactless Smart Technologies) … etc.
Since technologies have keep advancing everyday, the technology being used might not as secure as when it is being installed.
